StoVeneer Wood: Timber-Look Mineral Veneer Boards for Facades
Last updated 30 September 2026
StoVeneer Wood gives a facade the authentic look of timber boarding or board-formed concrete, without the need for additional structural work and with a durable, low-maintenance mineral build-up. These StoVeneer Wood panels are individually grained veneer boards, bonded onto a Sto render system and finished with a stain or paint. Sto Australia supplies StoVeneer Wood to architects, specifiers and builders for new builds and renovations, with technical support from specification through to completion.
What StoVeneer Wood is
StoVeneer Wood is a mineral veneer board for a timber look, and part of Sto's range of specialty products. Each StoVeneer Wood board is made of Sto-RFP with embedded Sto-Glass Fibre Mesh, is cement-free and is individually grained to reproduce the character of timber boarding. Boards measure 2.0 metres long by 160 millimetres high and approximately 2 millimetres thick, and are supplied 25 to a box. They are impact-resistant and can be cut to size with a utility knife.
Because the boards are so thin, the build-up is slim: two layers. That means the decision to clad a facade or feature area with StoVeneer Wood can be made at most stages of the design or construction process, on residential and commercial projects alike.
Why specify StoVeneer Wood
An authentic timber or board-form concrete look
Each board carries its own grain, so a completed elevation reads as timber boarding rather than a repeating pattern. Finished with a stain, it gives the warmth of timber. Finished to mirror board-formed concrete, it delivers a formed-concrete character. Either way, no additional structural work is required.
Durable and low maintenance
The boards are hard-wearing and impact-resistant, and are reinforced with a Sto Render System that underpins the longevity of the whole build-up. The result is a facade that is easy to maintain and covered by a Sto Warranty.
Flexible in design and programme
StoVeneer Wood works for architecturally accentuated exterior surfaces and feature areas, for new builds and for renovations. Because the system is only two layers, it can be introduced late in a design without reworking the wall structure behind it.
How the StoVeneer Wood system is built up
StoVeneer Wood is installed as part of a complete Sto system rather than as a stand-alone cladding board. The build-up has four elements:
- Substrate: a sound, load-bearing substrate. The Sto brochure shows an AAC panel, and options include Sto rendered exterior facades and interior surfaces.
- Reinforcement: Sto render with reinforcing mesh.
- Bonding: Sto-RFP, which bonds the boards directly onto the system reinforcement.
- Finish: StoVeneer Wood boards coated with StoAqua Top Satin or StoColor Maxicryl.
Reinforcing the veneer with a Sto Render System is what underpins the system's longevity. Substrate options vary from project to project, so for project-specific specification, contact us.
Finishes and colours: stained or painted
StoVeneer Wood boards are supplied in a white and natural shade and take their colour from the finish applied on site. For a realistic timber look, the boards are stained with StoAqua Top Satin, a silk-gloss glaze, applied in two coats. For a painted or board-form concrete appearance, they can be coated with StoColor Maxicryl.
The standard StoAqua Top Satin shades are Natural White, Grey, Ash, Light Oak, Pine, Old Pine, Oak, Walnut and Teak, running from pale, weathered tones to deep, warm browns. The final colour is influenced by the board and by the thickness of the glaze build-up, so the shade images in the brochure are a guide only. We recommend confirming your chosen shade on a sample before finishing a full elevation. For options beyond the standard shades, contact us.

Installing StoVeneer Wood
StoVeneer Wood is installed by Sto-registered contractors as part of the wider Sto system. In summary, the boards are bonded directly onto the system reinforcement with Sto-RFP, laid from top to bottom and pressed full-faced into the freshly applied bonding material so that there are no gaps or cavities. Excess Sto-RFP is removed once it has briefly hardened, and after the bonding material has dried sufficiently, the boards receive two coats of StoAqua Top Satin.
Site conditions matter. The substrate must be firm, level, dry, load-bearing and free from grease and dust, because damp or not fully cured substrates can cause defects in the coats that follow. Application needs substrate and air temperatures between 5 °C and 30 °C, and boards should be stored dry and above 15 °C before use. The technical data sheet sets out the full application method, and your Sto consultant can review it against your programme.
Where StoVeneer Wood suits, and where it does not
StoVeneer Wood is designed for exterior facades and accentuated feature areas, on mineral and organic substrates and within Sto facade insulation systems. It suits new builds and renovations where the substrate is sound and load-bearing. The Sto brochure also positions the system for interior walls and feature areas; interior applications should be confirmed with a Sto consultant against your substrate and conditions.
Two limits are worth designing around. StoVeneer Wood is not suitable for horizontal or sloping surfaces that are exposed to weathering. And where it is used on timber-frame construction, a building-physics calculation is required. Raising both early keeps a specification clean and avoids rework on site.
StoVeneer Wood in Australia: warranty, supply and support
StoVeneer Wood is covered by a Sto Warranty. Contact us to confirm warranty terms for your project. It is backed by the same technical partnership Sto provides across its render systems: specification advice, plan review and on-site support from consultants based in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, with representatives across Australia, drawing on nearly 200 years of Sto facade research.
StoVeneer Wood is imported from Sto's warehouse in Germany, so delivery times vary. Contact us early with your quantities and programme so the boards are on site when your installers need them.

Frequently Asked Questions
What substrates can StoVeneer Wood be applied to?
StoVeneer Wood suits sound, load-bearing substrates and can be used with Sto's facade and render systems, on both mineral and organic substrates. The brochure shows it over an AAC panel with a reinforced Sto render base. The substrate must be firm, level, dry and free from grease and dust, and on timber-frame construction a building-physics calculation is required. Contact us and we will confirm the right build-up for your substrate.
Can StoVeneer Wood be used indoors or on horizontal surfaces?
Sto positions StoVeneer Wood for exterior facades and, in its brochure, for interior walls and feature areas, so interior use should be confirmed with a Sto consultant for your project. It is not suitable for horizontal or sloping surfaces that are exposed to weathering, so it is generally limited to vertical surfaces.
What colours are available for StoVeneer Wood?
StoVeneer Wood is stained with StoAqua Top Satin or painted with StoColor Maxicryl. The standard StoAqua Top Satin shades are Natural White, Grey, Ash, Light Oak, Pine, Old Pine, Oak, Walnut and Teak. Colours can vary from the brochure images, so we recommend confirming your shade on a sample. Contact us for options beyond the standard range.
Does StoVeneer Wood meet fire and NCC requirements?
Fire performance and National Construction Code compliance depend on the building class, height, construction type and the complete wall system, not on a single board. Contact us with your project details and a Sto consultant will advise on the documentation available for your build-up before you specify.
How long does delivery take?
StoVeneer Wood is imported from Sto's warehouse in Germany, so delivery times vary. Contact us with your quantities and programme and we will advise on timeframes.
How much does StoVeneer Wood cost?
Pricing depends on the area to be clad, the substrate and render build-up beneath the boards, the stain or paint system chosen, and delivery from Germany. The slim, two-layer build-up and the absence of additional structural work are designed to keep installation time-efficient. Request a quote with your drawings or quantities and we will price the complete system.
